Alamosa and the San Luis Valley

Alamosa is the regional business hub of the greater San Luis Valley.  The San Luis Valley encompasses 8,000 square miles and sits at an average elevation of 7,500 feet (2,286 meters).  The headwaters of the Rio Grande River originate in the Valley and the relatively flat topography is surrounded by the San Juan Mountains on the West and the Sangre de Christo Mountains on the East.  This is the home of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and for those with other worldly yearnings the UFO Watch Tower.  The locals call this area “The Land of Cool Sunshine”.

The population of Alamosa may seem small at around 15,000 people but it swells each fall with the student populations of Adams State College and Trinidad State Junior College.  As the regional business HUB it also serves the Valley population of around 49,000.

The San Luis Valley is a destination for tourism.   No matter what time of year, tourists head for the Valley.  In the winter Wolf Creek Ski Area sports one of the highest snow totals in the country.  In the summer over 400,000 tourists visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park.  Other attractions include two trains – the Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Gauge and the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad.  Whether you like to hike, bike, 4 wheel drive, ride horseback, motorcycle, hunt, fish, ski or just enjoy the outdoors this is the area for you. The Wolf Creek Ski area is also near enough to us that we can get some of their 223,000 visitors just this year, one of the main reason so because of their affordable lift tickets.

New business developments in the Valley include solar farm electrical generation, new agricultural products, and retail/tourism related opportunities.

A Great Place For A Restaurant Is One That Has Limited Competition And Lots Of Traffic From Many Sources!

If this is the type of opportunity you have been looking for in your expansion plans then you might want to take a look at the city of Alamosa Colorado in the beautiful San Luis Valley.   The only nationally known sit down restaurant here is "Chili's" which only offers lunch and dinner.  This place is packed from 11:00 a.m.until closing.

With traffic from the Great Sand Dunes National Park estimated at over 300,000 visitors a year, Adams State College (soon to be a University) with student population in excess of 2,500 full time students, two train destinations for enthusiasts (Rio Grande Scenic Railroad and the Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Gauge), the fabulous Wolf Creek Ski Area and of course the native population of both Alamosa and what locals call The Valley, Alamosa is the hub for traveling through the entire southern part of Colorado.

Our family owns two adjoining lots on the west side of Alamosa, smack dab in front of the Super Walmart, less than two blocks from a brand new Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express.  These lots are in the newest retail section of town. One lot consists of 1.234 acres and faces Walmart on one side and U.S. Highway 160 on the other.  The other lot is .499 acres which is a south west corner lot on Craft and Clark Streets Walmart is on the north west corner.

The "Alamosa San Luis Valley" web page invites you to check out our beautiful valley http://www.alamosa.org.  Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the area each year...check out the Alamosa, Colorado and the Great Sand Dunes National Park http://www.nps.gov/grsa/index.htm websites for more information on our area.
